Psychoanalysis is an intentional and more intensive form of treatment. I recommend it – or better yet, we decide on it together – when we conclude that you have a pattern of experience or persistent uncomfortable feelings that interfere too much with your quality of life. A psychoanalysis provides the support and opportunity to do the learning and growing needed to leave old patterns behind. Ideally, it involves meeting multiple times a week to foster this growth process and may include using the couch to make room for exploration of deeper feelings that are guarded against in everyday life. In an analytic therapy, we look to your dreams, memories and interactions between us to access those deeper parts of you and enrich our understanding of you.
